And in the blink of an eye, October has come and gone. It seems the older I get (and as of today, I’m another year older), the faster time seems to be flying by. How was your month? Why not pour yourself a nice glass of wine as I reminisce about mine? Some quick stats for the month: Walking/Running:  77.8 miles, including two marathons in two weeks! Biking:  None Gym Workouts:  Nada Wine Consumption:  Onto the reds with the cooler weather upon us. Mostly Pinot Noirs for now, but I’ve also enjoyed a few Merlots and Cabs along the way My running/gym workouts have been waaay down (or non-existent) thisRead More →

As the year winds down (yes, I know we have two full months of 2017 to go!) I am already trying to convince myself to keep running throughout the winter. I made myself that promise last year, and with the brutal Chicago weather, I totally wimped out. I am one of those runners who doesn’t mind running in the heat and humidity at all. In fact, I prefer it to running in the cold. Especially the damp cold. I really hate having to wear multiple layers when I run. Once I start to sweat, I experience a bone-chilling cold that I just can’t seem toRead More →

It’s the last Friday of the month and I’m linking up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice for another Runfessions session! It’s been a long month, but I still can’t believe it’s almost over! Let’s head on over to the runfessional and see what I’ve been up to this month, shall we? I runfess that with two marathons scheduled two weeks apart in October, I did not train half as hard as I should have over the summer. Of course that’s no surprise to anyone who has followed my progress and even less of a surprise to everyone who knows what a procrastinator I can be. Still, I survived them both and had someRead More →

I am writing this on my flight home from DC, having completed the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) just this afternoon. Exactly two weeks earlier I completed the Chicago Marathon. It’s been a whirlwind two weeks, that’s for sure! You can read my recap of the Chicago Marathon here. At around Mile 20 in Chicago, I started feeling queasy and pretty much walked the remaining 6 miles. For me, no time is worth losing my cookies over. I was on track at the MCM to beat Chicago and maybe even PR; and then, Mile 18… I was able to coordinate the MCM with a business trip toRead More →

Well, this will be a short post as there isn’t much to share! I already posted my recap of the Chicago Marathon last week, but since I will be running the Marine Corps Marathon on Sunday, I am including my final week of training for Chicago along with the miles logged for the actual marathon because in true me form, that was (and probably will be) my last run before the MCM! Sunday, 10/1:  12.1 mile run Monday, 10/2:  6.1 mile run Tuesday, 10/3: 12 hour work day Wednesday, 10/4:  5.1 mile run Thursday, 10/5:  12 hour work day Friday, 10/6:  Rest day! Saturday, 10/7:  2.1 mileRead More →

This is a sponsored post. I was given paid compensation and a pair of Zelus Olympus insoles in exchange for my honest review.  All opinions are my own and should not be taken as health care advice. Always consult your health care provider with questions or concerns about your health and well-being. Hey, did you hear the one about the elite runner who ran the 2015 BMW Berlin Marathon with his insoles hanging out of his shoes throughout most of the race? Ha! I wonder what the punch line is to that one! Oh yeah, there isn’t one. It actually happened. In 2015, Kenya’s Eliud KipchogeRead More →

I was given the opportunity to preview a new app called The Breathing App in exchange for my honest review.  All opinions are my own and should not be taken as health care advice. Always consult your health care provider with questions or concerns about your health and well-being. Feeling stressed? Overwhelmed? Anxious? Who doesn’t?! Most of us live stressful, fast-paced lives and if you are like me, you sometimes feel like you are barely keeping your head above water. Back when I was raising small kids, working, starting a business, studying for my PhD, and just dealing with anything else life would throw at me,Read More →

Race weekend has come and gone, but the memories will live on forever! Once again, the Chicago Marathon did not disappoint. Considering this is the only marathon I’ve ever run, I really don’t have a frame of reference, but as a World Marathon Major, it has the reputation of being one of the best. The 2017 Chicago Marathon was special for me not just because it was the 40th anniversary year, but also because it was my fifth consecutive year running it, making me a legacy finisher. Moving forward, as long as I finish five in a ten year period, I will have guaranteed entry to the race,Read More →

Well, leave it to me to wait until the last minute to (try to) kick my training into gear! I was so good in the beginning but dropped off quite a bit in the middle of my plan, so here I am in the past couple of weeks trying to play catch-up in the end! Nothing too crazy as I don’t want to overwhelm myself in the last two weeks before the Chicago Marathon. My stats for the week: Sunday, 9/24:  15.1 mile run Monday, 9/25:  12 hour work day Tuesday, 9/26: 12 hour work day Wednesday, 9/27:  27.5 mile bike/5.1 mile run    Read More →

September has come to an end, and what a fantastic month it has been! Sit back and relax with your favorite libation as I review my past month. Some quick stats as the month comes to a close: Walking/Running:  55.2 miles Biking:  27.5 miles Gym Workouts:  5 strength training sessions, 3 cardio Wine Consumption:  With the warm weather hanging around most of the month, I’ve really been enjoying the Sauvignon Blancs! I worked most of Labor Day weekend, but after 35 years in health care, I’m pretty used to holidays, nights, and weekends not being any different than any other day. I’ve been putting extra hours in at workRead More →
