December Runfessions

Oh Lordy, Lordy, December has come and gone and it is once again time to enter the runfessional! It’s been a productive month for me in so many ways–except when it comes to running…and blogging. I have been pretty much absent from social media this past month. Sometimes that’s a good thing.  I’m linking up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice for another Runfessions session!

The last time I ran was during the Ragnar South Beach in November. That’s right, it’s been six weeks. Not good. But I also have to runfess that I don’t feel too bad about it. I was sick for a full two weeks after that race, and I have so much going on at the end of each year, it just didn’t happen for me. I’ve got some lofty running goals for next year. We’ll see how that works for me.

runfess that I procrastinated more than I ever have this Christmas, literally sitting down at my computer on the 23rd and just click-click-clicking myself into debt. Hello, Amazon Prime! I had everything delivered to my door by Christmas Eve and all was good with the world. Now to wait for that credit card bill.

I must runfess, despite the fact that I haven’t been running, I’m about to sign up for my 3rd 2018 marathon and am also signed up for two halfs and a sprint tri. I’m thinking if I’m actually sign up for races, I will get my butt out the door and run.

That being said, I have to runfess I still have it as my goal to run all the Marathon Majors. This year I will run my 6th consecutive Chicago Marathon, and it’s obviously time to branch out. I was fortunate to get a spot in the Berlin Marathon, which will have me running marathons three weeks apart. Not ideal, but my only goal ever is to finish, and I think I can do that.

Last, I runfess I had the most fantastic trip to Las Vegas with my husband and boys earlier this month. Our youngest turned 21 in October and we were there to celebrate! We missed the girls, but the five of us had an amazing time. I’m not sure I got more than 10 hours’ sleep in the five days we were there. We did a little hiking and a lot of gambling, and had some amazing meals when we were there. I swear if I win the PowerBall this week I am moving there permanently. You know, for the mild winter temperatures!

Hiking in Nevada with my family

I’m also linking up with Fairytales and Fitness and Running on Happy for the Friday Five.

How has your month been? Do you have anything good to runfess? Do you have your 2018 race calendar set? And most importantly…have you ever been to Vegas? What are your favorite things to do there?

  1. I don’t have a 2018 race calendar–I’m going to wing it and see how things go! I have 2 races on the calendar so far, but I do have an April race in mind if I can find a partner in crime to join me!

What are you thinking of doing? I am signed up for the Naperville Women’s Half in April. I ran the inaugural 2 years ago and it was awesome. I couldn’t run it last year because of my niece’s wedding out of state.

  2. Sounds like a great month if you ask me. And a fun trip to Vegas! Though I did live there and it wasn’t very awesome… 😉

Can’t wait to follow your training through 2018! Happy New Year!

I always say I’d love to live in Vegas, but all the locals tell me they avoid the strip unless they have guests in town. Who knows. Happy New Year to you too! Looking forward to following you this year as well!

  3. My MIL posted a picture of her tree surrounded with Amazon boxes — a modern Christmas! I did at least 50% of my shopping in stores the week before. I shop more efficiently under pressure. 😉

Ha that is so funny about the Amazon tree! We easily could have done that! I used to prefer the in-store shopping, but Amazon is just so easy and convenient!

  4. I need to count, but I think I have 6 or 7 races on my calendar thus far…but there are numerous others that I plan to do, just haven’t registered for them yet. Too many races….;-)

I’m about there, too. It’s just so hard to pre-plan as I travel for my business and don’t always know what my schedule will be like until the races have filled.

  5. So exciting that you will be doing Berlin next year!
I think that we all need to take some time away from running during the year. It can act as a great reset too!

Plus, my kids have all their Amazon orders sent here rather than to their apartments, so it’s like Christmas every day at our house!

  6. We have some great hiking around Vegas, for sure! Glad you got some in during your trip. 🙂

I’ve probably been to Vegas 8 or 10 times and have never explored hiking in the area. Next time it will be number one on the list of things to do!

  7. Sounds like a fun way to celebrate your son’s birthday!

Nice that you’ve already got some races on the calendar. I’ve just got one planned for early March so far.

It was so much fun! I keep looking at my 2018 calendar trying to see what best fits where. Today’s the day to sign up for those end of 2017 prices!

  8. Haha, amazon prime is both a blessing and a curse! 😉 I did most of my shopping early but then it seemed like Christmas snuck up so quick that I had quite a bit to get done in the days before.

  9. Time to lace up and get out the door (or at least hit the TM) so those 2018 races will be fun for you 🙂
I have been to Vegas a few times, I loved hiking and taking in the very different scenery, Hoover Dam, we flew over the Grand Canyon…beautiful!
January, February ad March are always kind of like…ugh, when i see the bills come.
    Happy 2018!!

We wanted to see Hoover Dam but parts of the tour were closed for repairs, so we decided to turf it until the next trip. The scenery for hiking was breathtaking! Yes, those holiday bills are already starting to trickle in. Ugh is right! Happy 2018 to you too!

  10. I love Vegas, one of my favorie places, almost moved there, but ended up in Florida. SOunds like a fun upcoming running year, time to get running!

I never thought I’d love Vegas as much as I do, but ever since my first visit, I’ve been hooked! So many fun things to do and amazing places to eat!

  11. Sounds like a great end to the year! I’m sure your calendar will fill up quickly with plenty of races!
