September Runfessions

It’s the last Friday of the month and I’m linking up with Marcia’s Healthy Slice for another Runfessions session! Be sure to head on over to her blog and give her a virtual high five for finishing the Berlin Marathon last weekend! She had a few bumps along the road but she made it there and finished with quite the smile on her face. Cheers to you, Marcia!

The new Mr. and Mrs.

runfess I am still riding on my happiness high after my son’s wedding on September 16th. We had four absolutely perfect days celebrating with the happy couple and friends and family. A sneak peek at their professional photos was published just today, which kicked up my giddiness factor another notch. You can check them out here if you would like!

It wouldn’t be the first time…

runfess I am the self-proclaimed Great Procrastinator, and as usual, I’ve put myself into a little bit of a panic with the Chicago Marathon just nine days away! I was all gung-ho with my first few weeks of training (my usual M.O.), but then slacked off at about the midway point. I’ve kicked it into gear this month and am feeling much better, but I still regret I didn’t stick with the plan. As we die-hard Cubs fans like to say, maybe next year!

The boys of Fall

I must runfess while everyone seems to be lamenting the end of summer, I am happy to see it go. I do love summer, but this one was particularly hot and humid, which didn’t help my motivation to train. Fall is my absolute favorite time of year, and though it’s been a bit of a slow start, I am hoping it is finally here to stay. As of today the weather for the Chicago Marathon is predicted as a low of 57º and a high of 74º. Yes, please!

runfess that with the cooler fall weather finally here, I am starting to look at a few more fall races. Right now I have the Chicago Marathon on October 8th, the Marine Corps Marathon on October 22nd, and the Ragnar South Beach on November 11th and 12th. If I don’t have to work I will probably do the local 5K Turkey Trot, but I am itching to find a couple of small fall races in the Chicago area to keep me running through the end of the year.

And last, I runfess on this National Coffee Day that every day is coffee day as far as I’m concerned! I drink at least a pot each morning, and wonder why I sometimes can’t sleep at night! There are so many conflicting stories…it’s good for you, it’s bad for you…yada, yada, yada. I love it to much to give it up.

I’m also linking up with Fairytales and Fitness and Running on Happy for the Friday Five.

How has your month been? What do you have to runfess? Any cool fall races coming up for you?

Yes, I am definitely a coffee-holic! I am very much looking forward to both of these races. I am a walker/runner and only ever hope to finish. I hope we can meet up before the start of MCM!

  2. I’ll be cheering for you at mile 13 on the right in Chicago! Yay for 57 degrees. Let’s hope it stays closer to that than 74. Come do the Hot Chocolate with us. That’s only a week after MCM for you so may be pushing it.

I will look for you, but of course you guys are always long gone by the time I make it to 13! I will check out the Hot Chocolate. My son did it a few years ago and loved it. I’m working that Saturday but am off on Sunday. I will let you know!

  3. So glad everything went well with your son’s wedding! And, I’m with you on being happy to see this summer go – it was crazy humid and my motivation and training suffered for sure. Bring on fall!

  4. Somehow, I never acquired a taste for coffee, though I think it smells heavenly 😉 I usually have to find a chai latte’ when I go to a coffee house…and not every place has that available. it would be so much easier if I just liked the coffee LOL

  5. The pictures were magnificent!! With all you have had going on I give you credit for doing the Chicago Marathon, it proves how strong your work ethic is to not find excuses. You are motivating me to complete my first Turkey Trot out here! Coffee is one of life’s wonders, I agree. My choice is hazelnut always. Best of luck with your upcoming Marathon!

      1. It is Sunday, Nov. 5th! Yes, see you soon!

  6. I actually had a cup of hot coffee today! I usually do iced, but I was FREEZING and just needed something warm (the air conditioning was cranking in the restaurant).

I hope everything goes well this week. I think we all get derailed by life from time to time. No shame in that!

  7. Congrats to your son! I am totally looking for ward to Fall. Now if only the weather would get the memo that summer is over!

  8. Come run Hot Chocolate with Marcia and me! My BRF Steph is also running as well as our sometimes running pal Cathy. Another blogger, Karen from Paris is going to meet us too. Could be a really fun day!

OMG that would be so fun! You know I am as slow as molasses, but I just might take you up on it. I am working that Saturday but off on Sunday. I will let you know!

  9. What great wedding pics. That bouquet is gorgeous too! I’ve got 2 October races lined up but nothing after that. :-/

Thanks! The flowers were absolutely gorgeous! I need to keep racing at least through November. Otherwise I will disappear from running after my fall marathons!

  10. Glad everything was lovely for the wedding. I am with you on the coffee!

  11. I am crossing my fingers that after our incredibly hot and humid summer that the weather will be in our favor next weekend for Chicago. We all suffered enough through our training, and more than earned perfect running weather for race day.

It’s going to get hot again during the week, but right now they are saying a low of 55 degrees and a high of 70 degrees for Sunday. I would be happy with that!
