Welcome to my blog! I’m Linda, also known as Mama J, Docta J, or on this site, The Accidental Marathoner! So where do I start?
“Begin at the beginning,” the King said, very gravely, “and go on till you come to the end: Then stop.” ― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland
I guess that’s as good a place as any. I was born and raised in Chicago, but moved to the ‘burbs a few years after graduating from college. I seriously thought my father was going to disown me. “We’re city people”, he said, as he peered over his glasses at me (in the way that only a can father can do). And city people we are. My parents, their siblings, and my entire large extended family were born and raised in Chicago, where most of them still live. I was one of the first to jump ship. It’s what worked for me at the time. I love everything about Chicago. I love the city’s vibrancy and everything it has to offer, from the beautiful lakeshore and skyline to the diverse neighborhoods and of course, the world-class shopping, entertainment, and restaurant options. I currently live in suburban Chicago with my family, but someday I will make my way back home. After all, we’re city people.
Until a few years ago, I had zero running experience, except, of course, running around my neighborhood as a little girl. My life as a ‘runner’ is just starting to evolve, and I am only now starting to get comfortable with that label. While I do have a health care background, I am not a nutrition or health expert. It is not my intent to give exercise, nutrition, or health advice on this site. However, I will occasionally discuss what has worked for me. Any statements made on this site should not be construed as recommendations or health advice. Always consult your health care provider before embarking on any exercise or weight loss journey.
From time to time, I may review certain products on this site. These reviews will express my opinion only. Do your own research and find out what’s best for you.
I invite you to come along and share your experiences with me and my readers. Sign up for exclusive e-mail updates on the home page (scroll down to just below the latest post to sign up). Through active discussion on this site, I hope to expand my horizons, grow as a runner, and develop relationships with the online running community.
