Happy FriYay everyone! On what is yet another cold, gray, and blustery Spring morning in the Midwest, why not pull up a chair with your favorite blankie and cup o’Joe and join me for a little conversation?
If we were having coffee, I would tell you I have the best coffeemaker on earth. Seriously! My husband bought this monstrosity for me for Christmas five years ago because it supposedly makes the very best coffee, and I would have to say, I agree! A couple of weeks before Christmas this year, it stopped working. Yikes! I checked my receipt and wouldn’t you know it…the five-year warranty was going to expire in just 11 days! When does that ever happen??? This awesome company repaired the machine and it’s as good as new. Last week a little (but important) piece broke off of the filter basket. The company sells new baskets for $19.50. There was nothing wrong with the basket itself. My husband e-mailed the company and asked if they sold the little rubber piece. They don’t, so they are just going to send us one. Score! I will say, the coffeemaker is ridiculously expensive. But considering I make two (yes, two!) pots a day, and with such great customer service, I would absolutely buy it again. If you are a coffee lover like me, you can check it out on Amazon. This is the one I have, but you if you drink only one or two cups a day, check out this single-cup, less expensive model as an alternative. If you really love coffee and prefer to make it at home, I would give these a serious look.
Over coffee I would tell you that tax season has me (as usual) pulling my hair out. And I don’t even do my own taxes! However, I’m so ridiculously lame about keeping all of my papers in one place, it takes me a full week to get everything together for my accountant. I used to do my taxes before I owned my business, but with all the rules about a home business and the way they change from year to year, it’s much easier for me to pay someone else to get them done. I finally finished this week. And now, it’s time to shred. This year I decided to splurge and buy a high-capacity shredder. It was a little pricey ($99.99 on Amazon), but it shreds not just paper, but also CDs and credit cards. And hey, now I have another tax deduction for next year! This is the one I have, if you are in the market for one!
If we were having coffee I would tell you about my new snack obsession. I was bumped up to First Class on a flight a few weeks ago, and they were handing these out. I’d never tasted them and probably never should have. They are just one of the many reasons I can’t shake these extra 10 15 pounds I have gained over the past six or so months. Want to give them a try? Just like E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G, you can buy them on Amazon! They come in a variety of flavors…I’m a little nervous I might just fall in love with them all!
Over coffee I would tell you I have a half marathon coming up in just two weeks and I still haven’t been running very much (hence the weight gain…). It’s been so freaking cold in Chicago, I just can’t get my ever-growing butt out the door. We are already two weeks into Spring and we are still seeing snow and wind chills in the single-digits!
And last, if we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m super excited that baseball season is here! I’m a lifelong Cubs fan, and they sure have had an awesome past few years! My son and daughter-in-law live just a block or two from Wrigley Field, which means free street parking close to the ballpark on game day!
What would you share with me over coffee? Do you brew your own, or rely on a local barista? Are you a baseball fan?
I’m linking up with Rachel and Lacey and Meranda for the Friday Five 2.0 and with Coco and Deborah on Saturday for the Ultimate Coffee Date!
I cannot wait for baseball season. Maybe we should meet up for a game?
OMG that would be so fun! And a race…one of these days!!!
This winter really is dragging on… and thanks for the reminder about taxes. I better get on that!
My business taxes are due March 15, and it’s always a struggle to get everything together that early. I’m such a procrastinator!
If we had coffee together, I’d complain about the cold weather and thankful I have a treadmill to run on at home! Also, I hate doing my taxes as well, and I have someone else do mine.
I have a treadmill that I have been so lame about utilizing during this cold winter/spring weather. Hopefully with tax stuff all submitted and a few other things off my plate, I’ll get back into it.
Yes, Spring hasn’t sprung officiallly weatherwise in the windy city but word has it after the 15th of the month it may. Thanks for all the links for the great products. Always a good feeling to get the taxes out of the way and they remind me of that ecstatic feeling submitting FAFSA for the kids. Wishing the Cubs another winning season, lucky you have prime parking too.
We’re so over this cold spring weather! Bob and Mark are going to see the Cubs in Milwaukee today. Go Cubs Go!!!
Sounds like you give that coffee pot a good workout! I feel like we’re getting ripped off with April being so dang cold. It’s beyond ridiculous already.
I feel like we will just move into summer and then it will be over. UGH.
I have been thinking about upgrading my Keurig for a fancier coffee machine. I just wonder if I will use it for lattes or not. They always taste better when someone else makes them. Thanks for joining us for coffee!!
Supposedly this coffeemaker brews at the exact perfect temperature (if that exists!)…who knows. I do love it though!
I enjoy baseball, too, but the best I an do (other than our local HS team), is the Iowa Cubs in Des Moines…sound familiar? 😉 I have a half on the 22nd, and just realized that it’s the morning after prom…the prom that I work all night (well, until 3:30am-ish) at the after-party. I have both events in my planners, but not listed in BOTH planners. That’s gonna be fun LOL
OMG there is no way I would be able to do a half after volunteering at the prom! You are a better woman than me! I would definitely bail!
Wow that is some coffee maker!
I’ve got to look into that shredder – my home office is a sea of paper and my little cheapy shredder just called it quits!
Hope you get some spring weather soon – it’s still eluding us here in New England too.
I guess ‘go big or go home’ is pretty much our theme here in this house! I just love this new shredder. It’s made a huge difference!
IF coffee is the most important part of the day and sets the tone for the whole thing…then I am all for buying quality! Like jeans- something you wear or do everyday is worth a spending a bit more for sure!
I couldn’t agree more. As I said, I literally make two pots a day…might as well do it right!
Wow, that is a fancy coffee maker, but reliably good coffee is worth it! I like the carafe style — hot plates “burn” the coffee so quickly. I try to keep all my tax papers organized, but we inevitably end up hunting for something!
I definitely like the carafe much better. It will keep the coffee warm for hours without changing the taste.
I used to own a coffee shop so I have numerous ridiculous coffee contraptions in my basement that I haven’t gotten around to selling yet. I can make a mean latte at home though. lol As a business owner there is no way I would do my taxes myself either. But I to take a while to gather everything for the accountant. Stuff I know I should have perfectly packed away in designated places throughout the year.
Oh, I bet you have some really fun coffee contraptions! I would be tempted to set them up at home! I feel like I can probably do my taxes, but ask my next year why I did what I did this year? I’d have no idea!
Sounds like an awesome coffee maker and company who made it! I so want an iced coffee machine myself. My favorite kind of coffee.
Ugh, I am sure you guys are so beyond over the snowy weather. Hope you get a reprive asap!
As much as I like coffee, I’ve never really developed a liking for the iced versions. And yes, we are sooooo done with winter here!!!
I have a Keurig and a regular coffee maker. Depending on my mood I make my coffee at home or sometimes stop at Starbucks.
Which half will you be doing? I agree that this weather is insane.
It’s rare I will stop somewhere to buy coffee. I just drink too much of it!
I love my coffee but I have a cheap machine (Keurig-like machine at home and use Starbucks French roast.
I haven’t finished my taxes. I wait until the last minute because we have to pay A LOT.
I love baseball and I am a life-long METS fan. Hoping for good things this year.
I honestly wouldn’t have spent this much money on a coffeemaker, but it sure made a nice gift! I buy packaged Dunkin’ Donuts coffee to brew at home. I’m hoping we don’t have to pay for taxes this year. Fingers crossed.
Come on down to Houston and we can enjoy some coffee with NO snow! Ha
I am sorry it is still so nasty and cold out. I miss living up there, but not the winter weather!
That looks like one cool coffee maker!
I was so proud of myself for keeping everything in place and getting our taxes done in March! What a PAIN each year!
Oh, I would love to be in Houston right now! These Chicago winters are definitely getting old. I finally got my tax stuff done last week. I’m so glad to get that off my plate!
Baseball season is so much fun, isn’t it? Now if it would only start feeling like Spring out there…..
I just love baseball, but only during nice weather! The Cubs opener has been rescheduled for tomorrow due to snow!
The customer service on your coffee maker sounds amazing! Also impressive is the fact that you could find the receipt to show that it was still in the 5-year warranty window.
I was supposed to run a half in 3 weeks, but my training hasn’t been very consistent this season. I transferred to the 8k instead and I feel very relieved!
They really are a great company. If something has a warranty, I will usually staple the receipt to any important labeling from the box and then throw it in a file. It’s so unusual that the timing workes out to my advantage!
The cover posting of yours makes me more willing to run, you are incredible. Thank you for everything. Gratitude!
Thank you so much!
